Bell Pottinger Private → Bell Pottinger – Although the company is legally Bell Pottinger Private Limited, it's never referred to as that, always just as Bell Pottinger. The new logo, which I'll upload to Commons, is also simply 'Bell Pottinger'. I have a COI as an employee of the company and I'm working on the article with Richfife. Thanks. Name, acquisition of Centreground, client list
Hi,
As stated on my user page, my name is James Thomlinson and I work at Bell Pottinger. There is information missing from this article, including information on an important recent acquisition as well as on both past and current clients, which I feel would be beneficial to include:
Infobox
Employees: the number of employees is now 300. I do not have a source for that so let me know if it can be taken at face value.
Intro
It would be appropriate to include something on the MBO at the end of the intro:
- In June 2012, Lord Bell and Bell Pottinger CEO James Henderson completed a £19.6m MBO from Chime, with Chime retaining a 25% stake in the business.[1]
History
1. In the penultimate sentence of the first paragraph it should be mentioned that Bell Pottinger Middle East also has offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.[2]
2. A line on the 2010 merger between Pelham Public Relations and Bell Pottinger Corporate and Financial should be included at the end of that paragraph:
- In 2010 Pelham Public Relations, a financial public relations business, merged with Bell Pottinger Corporate and Financial.[3]
3. Last year’s acquisition of Centreground Political Communications, as well as the launch of a new luxury offering, should be included after the second paragraph:
- Bell Pottinger Private acquired Centreground Political Communications Limited, founded by former Tony Blair adviser Darren Murphy, in June 2014.[4] In September that year, the company launched a new service aimed at the luxury sector.[5]
Notable clients
The following should be included in the list of current clients:
- South Africa Tourism[6]
- Centrica[7]
- Friends Life[8]
- Virgin Media Business[9]
- Hays[10]
- Mulberry[11]
- Birds Eye[12]
- AT&T Williams[13]
And in past clients:
- Emirates Airline (no longer a client, should be moved from current)
- Airbus (as above)
- Fortnum and Mason (as above)
- The Press Association[14]
- Talk Talk[15]
- Madrid Olympic Bid[16]
- Multiplex Wembley[17]
- Coca-Cola[18]
- Adobe[19]
- O2[20]
- HSBC[21]
- Ebay[22]
- ASDA[23]
- NHS[24]
- Sega Europe[25]
Finally, we are no longer called Bell Pottinger Private, just Bell Pottinger – the article should be updated accordingly throughout.
Please reply here or on my talk page. I will also post on COIN. Thanks. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 14:44, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

- Looks reasonable at a glance. I'll do a bit of due diligence when I get a chance and put up what I can. Thank you very much for doing this the right way. - Richfife (talk) 16:45, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Richfife, that'd be great and thank you for taking a look – ping me if you've got any questions. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 16:56, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- Can you make the name change request here?. It has to go through channels and I don't have the authority to do it myself. It's better if you make the case directly. - Richfife (talk) 18:53, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- I put some of the changes up, but I want to take a moment to ponder here. Technically we're not supposed to use press releases in prweek as reliable sources, but... since the is within the PR industry already, they become a bit more authoritative. My brain hurts. Stand by. - Richfife (talk) 04:07, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Richfife, thanks for looking at this again. Regarding PR Week, they aren't press releases – it's a trade magazine and these are all pieces of editorial by staff writers. Noted re the name change request, I'll follow that process. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 10:12, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Richfife: there are also a few updates for the infobox:
- 1. The key people list should be:
- Lord Bell (Chairman)
- Piers Pottinger (Deputy Chairman)
- James Henderson (Chief Executive)
- David Beck (Chief Operating Officer)
- David Wilson (Managing Director)
- Tom Leigh (Chief Financial Officer)
- Mark Smith (Non-Executive Director)
- 2. Revenue (18 months to 31 December 2013): £55.6 million
- 3. And the website is now: bellpottinger.com
- Thanks. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 12:20, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've been thinking about this and I think the client lists (both of them) should go entirely. The actual relationship needs to be notable on a case by case basis. It's not enough that both parties are notable individually. Wikipedia being what it is, I expect there are 18 billion counter examples, but we've got to start somewhere. - Richfife (talk) 18:42, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Richfife, yes that makes sense, thanks. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 11:21, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Richfife, I don't think there's any need to have anything in brackets in the first sentence of the intro, i.e. it really only needs to say "Bell Pottinger is a British multinational public relations and marketing company...". Above the infobox, however, where it currently says "BPP Communications Ltd. (trading as Bell Pottinger Private)", it could say "Bell Pottinger Private Limited", which is the full name of the legal entity. Thanks. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 11:55, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delays. Didn't want to just pick at it. As I'm sure you're painfully aware, PR firms don't make the news when things go right. This creates some problems creating an article that follows Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. Anyway, I went ahead and left the client list in, but I backed out a lot of the excess verbiage (both positive and negative). - Richfife (talk) 12:32, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Richfife, any chance you can look at the infobox as per the above? Plus there are three instances of 'Bell Pottinger Private' that need to change to 'Bell Pottinger', and there's the point just above regarding the intro and the legal name above the infobox. Thanks very much. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 12:56, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Richfife – any thoughts on my post above? Key people in infobox, 'Bell Pottinger Private' to 'Bell Pottinger' and legal name (infobox and intro). Thanks very much. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 11:44, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- I'm going to go do other things. - Richfife (talk) 19:30, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Richfife: any suggestions for someone else who might be able to take a look at this? These are legitimate requests; the article is not currently as accurate as it should be. Thanks. Jthomlinson1 (talk) 15:09, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
