Abandoned? edit

I know Israeli tanks had no end of trouble recently with beam-riding Kornet missiles... 89.138.93.171 (talk) 16:28, 17 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think whoever wrote the article means abandoned...as a form of Surface-To-Air Missile Guidance, which certainly is very true; notice the mention of the RIM-2 Terrier just after that sentence. None of the SAM's on the market today use the beam-riding guidance method. WikiphyteMk1 (talk) 06:38, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Currently as far as i can find out there are two SAM systems in production that are beam riders The Starstreak missile used by the British army and the RBS 70 Developed by Sweden Startreak has been exported ( in limited numbers) to South Africa, and the RBS 70 has been sold by sweeden to 14 additional countrys. Both systems are a continuing part of Sweeden and the UK's arsenal and are not 'legacy' equipment. Also the Starstreak artical has an intresting list of the Pros and Cons of beam guided weapons as opposed to other guidence systems, which i think this page could do with a version of. So basically the article is written from the perspective of the US experience with this method of guidance? The 9k121 Vikhr article links here and seems to have more information on laser beam-riding contained within it then this article does. Perhaps a rewrite with the experiences of the Swedes, Brits and Russians is relevant then? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Senor Freebie (talkcontribs) 12:41, 17 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the article only meant large SAMs, not smaller MANPADs. The Starstreak and RBS 70 are listed as weighing around 15-18 kg. The Terrier missile weighs over 1000 pounds alone. --UnneededAplomb (talk) 02:23, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually the Vikhr appears to be command guided, at least according to what is in the article. Maury Markowitz (talk) 14:49, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
