Talk:Bdnews24.com

Latest comment: 10 years ago by Respublicans in topic NPOV and adding verifiable sources

bdnews24.com is referred to throughout wikipedia but yet is not the feature of an article edit

I am starting this page as there is no entry for this, Bangladesh's most internationally and domestically significant news reporting media. Lutfurrahman (talk) 00:49, 9 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The relevancy of information edit

There is very few information about the original topic. More than half of the entry is irrelevant to the original topic. Drawing attention of the editors. (Tanjir (talk) 22:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC))Reply

NPOV and adding verifiable sources edit

bdnews24.com is one of that country's major media groups. A good measure of its standing and credibility appears to be that they are the primary or possibly sole local media source that the BBC cites or relies on when covering news of that country, or at the very least the BBC seems to heavily favour them http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10194392 . It does seem rather strange they have not bothered to update and clean up NPOV given how active they are. Their Alexa rank seems consistently around the 1000 mark +/- and they are the top ranked English/Bengali language websites in the country, ranking among the top ten of all websites. These are serious figures: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/bdnews24.com. Apart from the article being badly written, it is highly selective in terms of highlighting key stories they have broken. I realise that Grameen Bank and its founder are globally renown but crowing about bringing about his downfall is strange to highlight even if it might be true. I will start a clean up this morning and slowly add references. "bdnews24.com" is also a logo and it is written without a capitalised 'B'; this should be corrected too. There are a couple of assertions here which are not quite verifiable: 1]is consistently the most consulted Bangladeshi website worldwide. 2]dissimilating information faster than other news agencies Respublicans (talk) 01:17, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Spam: also headed a bunch of layabouts from across the profession. Respublicans (talk) 01:18, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I can not see sources for any of this: Former BBC broadcaster and journalist Toufique Imrose Khalidi took over as Managing Director of the company, and the organisation remerged as bdnews24.com. He, as Chief Editor, Respublicans (talk) 01:20, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

No sources at all: With the promise of delivering news fast and accurate[citation needed], the online newspaper started its journey in 2005 as the country’s first web-based news agency. However, the opportunity to look back to the drawing board came in the form of a friendly take-over in mid-2006 with boardroom changes at Bangladesh News 24 Hours Ltd, the owning company of bdnews24.com. There is an FAQ section http://bdnews24.com/aboutus/faq/ but I am not sure if the material within counts as verifiable. I can put in 'claims to be' etc. Here is some useful material however relating to its history and ownership:

"What are the origins of bdnews24.com? bdnews24.com turned 7 in October 2013. However, its history dates back to mid-2006 in the form of a friendly takeover with boardroom changes at Bangladesh News 24 Hours Ltd, the owning company. The takeover was an opportunity to return to the drawing board. What had started as BDNEWS - with news agency service delivered online to several newspapers in Bangladesh - had become difficult to sustain for the original founders. In June 2006, ToufiqueImroseKhalidi, journalist and former BBC broadcaster, took over as Managing Director of the company, and the organisation re-emerged as bdnews24.com. The only other member of the Board of Directors is ICT entrepreneur AsifMahmood, who chairs. As Editor-in-Chief, ToufiqueKhalidi headed a new-look team of experienced, talented, tech-savvy, multi-tasking, high-energy staff gathered from across the profession to build a faster-moving newsroom. The news outfit’s second incarnation came as an online newspaper - an idea conceived just ahead of a five-day public holiday in late October 2006. Facing the challenge of delivering news to a population who would be without newspapers during the holiday, the Editor-in-Chief took the decision to allow completely unrestricted and free access to the entire content of the platform, including news, for the duration of period. At that moment — in the early hours of October 23, 2006— Bangladesh’s first online newspaper was born!" Respublicans (talk) 01:34, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
