  • The section titled "Bastoy's Dark Past" quotes verbatim from the Washington Post film review. Needs to be summarized instead. Springhill40 (talk) 14:22, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've rewritten this section so it's no longer a straight copy-and-paste, hopefully it's no longer a copyright issue. Robofish (talk) 18:04, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • The sentence "Reoffending rates have been reported at 16%, compared to a European average of around 70%" makes a great claim but its information is impossible to interpret and potentially misleading unless we know that the other prisons the comparison (having 70% reoffending rate) get the same cohort of prisoners. The cited reference 4 states: "Prisoners can come here for the final part of their sentence if they show a commitment to live a crime-free life on release." I think that this fact is very important in understanding the low reoffending rate ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nslavov.mit (talkcontribs) 16:04, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Factual errors edit

I was an inmate in Bastøy for three years. There are several errors on this page, though I cannot cite any reliable sources.

1. "Arne Kvernvik-Nilsen, governor of the prison..." He has not been the governor for years.

2. "Inmates ... work the prison farm." Misleading. Agriculture is one of several options, including the kitchen, the shop, workshop, the ferry and cleaning.

3. "...inmates have access to horseback riding..." There are indeed horses on the island, but there is no horseback riding.

4. "In the 38 years the prison has been operating there has only been one attempted escape." There have been four that I know of the last five years, though three of them was failure to return from leave of absence.

5. "...dine on food cooked by a chef..." The food is cooked by inmates.

6. "...enjoy a sauna..." There is no sauna.
