Removed the cast list. It looks suspciously like a cut-and paste from IMDB entry. IMO cast lists are not appropriate for encyclopedia articles. If the consensus develops otherwise, here's the list.

Death threat?

The article about Full Metal Jacket states that Kubrick received death threats when making Barry Lyndon. Is this true? Axl 21:39, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hmm.. I'm not sure, but it could have been because of Clockwork Orange, which got an extremely bad reputation in England (and was even banned or withdrawn, can't remember what) for several years. It is not very probable that the threats had anything to do with Barry Lyndon. --Flosch 14:22, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It was due to the film being shot in Ireland. At the time, mid 70's, the IRA were extremely active and it was believed that a film about the British Army would have been a legitimate target. This resulted is shooting being switched to England.

I don't think it was "death threats" as such, but he moved production from Ireland to England after he received word his name was on an IRA hit list for directing a movie featuring English soldiers in Ireland. So I don't think it was a direct "we'll kill you" sort of thing like which happened after A Clockwork Orange, but it was enough to get him out of Ireland.

Zooms in Barry Lyndon

I am restoring a link which I put up over a year ago and was recently removed. To the best of my knowledge, never before in the history of Kubrick scholarship has anyone attempted a close look of every single zoom in the film "Barry Lyndon". Hence, my scholarly contribution is a one-of-a-kind document which can aid newcomers in the study of the subject, as well as assisting students and scholars. I wrote the document purely for the benefit of others (my website has nothing for sale and there is no self-promotion about me, personally or in any other way), and the link was available for over a year on this site. I am simply restoring the status quo. If an editor new to this page has an issue with my link, then it seems to me that it would have to be demonstrated that my essay lacks merit. I defy anyone to demonstrate that my "Zooms in Barry Lyndon" document lacks scholarly merit. I invite the dialogue.Scrooby 20:09, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

MarnetteD continues to remove my link without any discussion on this talk page. I contend that my link, which has been up for over a year, is not spam in the slightest. Moreover, MarnetteD is violating the status quo of the page, which, as I have said, has contained this link for over a year. Poster artwork: Saul Bass?

Can anyone identify the artist who created the distinctive poster for this film, with the rose, pistol and jackboots? It appears to be either by or in the style of the artist Saul Bass, but without a concrete source, I've no way of knowing. Radical AdZ (talk) 04:28, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
