What aircraft did this engine power? edit

This article is listed in Category:BMW aircraft engines and has Template:BMW aeroengines in it, but no mention is made in the article of the engine being used in any aircraft. Coud someone please clarify this, either by stating what aircraft used this engine or by removing the category and template markups from the article? Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 13:27, 11 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I looked in the all the usual books and can find no reference to this engine being used in aircraft. In fact the only thing I can find that relates it to aircraft is the photo in the article. I suggest the aviation links are all removed, including the photo which I suspect is incorrect. --Biker Biker (talk) 15:55, 11 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
The blade in the photo doesn't look like that much like a propeller either; maybe it's some kind of fan? Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 20:44, 11 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Aviation links on the article page have been removed, while the one on this page will be removed when I save this edit. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 21:08, 11 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps we were a little hasty! See User_talk:Ahunt#BMW_M2B15. He has found sources that show it was used in aircraft. --Biker Biker (talk) 18:23, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Scratch that. Books LLC, publisher of the book listed at Barnes & Noble is a Wikipedia article reprinter, so what we have there is a circular reference. I think we are right to err on the side of caution for now. --Biker Biker (talk) 18:29, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
BMW Classic's web page on the engine: http://www.bmwclassic.com/2/webmill.php?id=158078 mentions experimental use in an aircraft, but, according to them: "with no more than moderate success." Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 21:14, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Meanwhile, 10 years later..! I visited the museum that this engine is in last weekend, the placard says it flew one aeroplane designed by Friedrich Budig which lead me to the Budig glider article. From one of the photos it looks like the propeller being used is the one displayed with the engine. I should have a good photo to upload. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 16:48, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
