Change of India's name

There is one paragraph where India is repeatatively called Bharat. Please change it as Bharat is not what India is called officially dho 17:54, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Actually, Bharat is one of India's official names, (see the Constitution of India). However, it should be changed back to India, and likewise Bharatiya should be changed to Indian when not referring to the BJP, or part of another name, to conform with common usage in English.

Part I The Union and its Territory

Article 1 Name and territory of the Union

(1) India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.

Arun 02:33, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

I've changed almost all of the uses of the words Bharat and Bharatiya to India and Indian, respectively. I've kept the words in references to the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, in references to the Bharatiya Janata Party, and in the quote "leader of Bharat's destiny,".

I do not know where that quote came from, and whether India or Bharat was used in it.

Jawaharlal Nehru University

The article says that he was a post graduate from JNU, it cannot be so since the University was set up in 1969. Can it be checked up Sumal

Expansion

The page seems to have been hugely expanded by a huge fan of Vajpayee and BJP politics. Each sentence needs to be reviewed and facts need to be extracted from the words full of praise. --Just my 2 cents -- Hemanshu 11:48, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

I have reverted the expansion. --Just my 2 cents -- Hemanshu 12:55, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

Dear Hemanshu - please do not wipe out a plethora of information that enriches the article just on the basis of some partial statements and descriptions. Please do not do such things without debate on specific points you find objectionable. - Nirav Maurya

Part of the information that has been put on this page is a description of the politics when ABV was the PM. It needs to be edited (and moved to another page, if need be) --Keynes.john.maynard 22:59, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Changes to Text

Please discuss all objections, questions and issues properly, and include/disclude materials on a factual basis alone. It is not fair nor decent to act unilaterally on the article.

If the article appears to be partial, then corrections should be made but the entire article, which has added a plethora of facts and information, must not be reverted.

Thank you,

Nirav Maurya

Hindu Extremism

I took out some of the stuff about the Babri Mosque and how it was a symbol of oppression of the Muslim invaders... This is not NPOV. I am a Hindu and even I can tell you that. I left it saying that Hindu activists consider it holy and that they destroyed a mosque. That is, after all, what objectively happened. We also need to reduce the length of this article or subdivide it into categories. It has way too much straight text.

format better

the section on war (pokhran kargil etc) needs to be divided into subsections.

the third term section is very long, needs to be split up. this will also help to read through and maintain NPOV.

Edits

Made major edits to attempt to remove the POV that has plagued this article for ages. Gave up halfway through, couldnt take the language any more. Will come back to it in due course. Hornplease 09:27, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Native Hindi speaker

Is it really necessary? It is the fifth sentence or so in the article. Sounds a bit random at first glance. GizzaChat © 13:28, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

devanagari spelling

the current rendering reads as 'ba-hi-aa-ree'. devanagari spelling in india would append the vowel matra to the beginning of the consonant 'b', not to the aspirated 'ha'. how can this be remedied?

-- this is system dependent; check your font library.

Readding NPOV

I've retagged the page with NPOV, because it sounds like an admirer got ahold of the page once more, particularly in the sections "Pokhran, Lahore and Kargil" and "Third term: into the 21st century". Unfortunately, since this has been a problem before, I'm not really sure how much difference it will make to just NPOV it again. erhudy 13:58, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Comments and suggestions

I have read through and copyedited the page (upto the Third term section, which I only partially edited) Overall the page is very informative, but I had a few cavils listed below:

  • There is too much detail in certain sections especially dealing with the Vajpayee's 2nd and 3rd term. As a result these sections read more as a history of India during those years, than an article on Vajpayee.
  • I think the events during those years should be mentioned only so far as ABV played a role in them and as they impacted him. The events themselves should be described in articles of their own - for instance see the new Prevention of Terrorism Act, India stub I created using content previously contained in the ABV article.
  • There is way too much editorializing in parts of the page, especially the sections mentioned above. While it makes for juicy reading, it also makes the article unencyclopedic. I think it will be useful for editors to read this guideline.
  • There are no references cited in the article ! Since this problem pervades the whole article I have avoided tagging everything with {{Fact}} - but IMO this deficiency should and can be remedied (after all there is no shortage of newspaper and magazine coverage of ABV, given India's free press!)

If we can work on these issues I think we can get the article to Featured article standard, since it already has sufficient content. What do other think ? Abecedare 08:07, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Full of bullshit and POV

Unless we are willing to say Pro-Muslim Indian National Congress, it shouldn't say Pro-Hindu BJP 128.238.79.92 14:50, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Er, not really. The BJP is fairly explicitly pro-Hindu, whereas Congress is very secular. BovineBeast 19:21, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Is Congress "very secular"? Or, pesudo-secular? I am a liberal person and I don't support Hindu nationalism. Please stop making such comments. Masterpiece2000 (talk) 13:57, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I would rather say that some people percieve BJP as pro-Hindu. In the same breath, I would say that some people percieve INC as pseudo-secular. But, an encyclopedia can not say a party to be Pro-Hindu as such. Abhask 01:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
This article is very bias. The article must be written from NPOV. Masterpiece2000 (talk) 14:06, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

wrong hindi

name hindi (for "bihari" )font is wrong. somebody with hindi font in their pc correct it please. 218.248.39.98 (talk) 04:19, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Spelling/Pronunciation

I was always under the impression that Vajpayee's name is correctly spelled वाजपायी in Hindi and is pronounced "Vahj-pah-yee." However, the article spells his name as वाजपेयी, which would be pronounced "Vahj-pe-yee." Is that right? (FYI, according to pronunciation guides published by the Associated Press, it's pronounced "Vahj-pah-yee," although I am mindful that the AP is not the best source for this information.) --Hnsampat (talk) 06:08, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Neutrality POV tag readded specifically to "Legacy and criticism" section

Anyone who reads this section will realize there's obviously a NPOV problem there. Homoaffectional (talk) 02:26, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

2009 General Elections

Maybe Shri Vajpayee's absence from campaigning was a factor for the BJP defeat in the 2009 General Elections, but certainly not "one of the main factors of the defeat of NDA". I suggest to remove that paragraph. --Pinin (talk) 17:07, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

No mention of Godhra and the subsequent Gujrat Riots

Godhra and the subsequent riots are a significant pointer of Vajpayee's legacy. His allusion to "Raj Dharma" and change of stand at Goa national executive are worth a prominent mention. The following no-confidence motion should also be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.164.212.189 (talk) 23:35, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

More Light on Personal Life than Political

This article focuses more on the political life of mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is therefore necessary to update more on his personal life and his current situation (e.g health conditions and why he is out of the political picture etc etc) AJ (talk) 12:52, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
