Golden Fleece

While the rumors of the Golden Fleece have abounded for years, I cannot find actual evidence of it, at least at http://www.taxpayer.net/awards/goldenfleece/history.htm. - Walter Bender

Multiple sources including the Wisconsin Historical Society don't have it listed as well. [1] The only sources I can find that mention it link back to these Wikipedia articles and I can't check the cited article since it requires payment to read. Which staffers? In any case, such contact would constitute original research in violation of the WP:NOR policy. Nicholas Negroponte and Michael Naimark. I can forward the emails if so desired. Even ignoring these due to the policy, the project is never listed in the primary source of all Golden Fleece award winners on file with the Wisconsin Historical Society. Links above. Stan Sasaki

I corrected the name of one of the people who worked on the Aspen project from "Stan Syzaki" to "Stan Sasaki". The mis-spelling seems to have been copied from another document with the same error. I don't have a reference demonstrating that the name should be "Sasaki", but I personally knew Stan while he and I were both undergraduates at MIT. He gave me a tour of the Architecture Machine Group lab and told me all about his work on the Aspen map, so I'm positive it's the same person--and "my" Stan spelled his name "Sasaki". --Fthiess 19:18, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Movies of the Movie Map

Is there a problem with putting a link to the actual movie? I am from the Media Lab, and digitized old videos, including the Aspen Movie Map. It is online at the Speech group video website, and I also uploaded all of them to Youtube:

Has the actual software (including Magic6 operating system it ran on) and Laser Discs survived? If so, there's a decent chance the system can be emulated (the Interdata hardware already is, in SIMH, but the rest of the setup obviously isn't) shattered (talk) 17:32, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Youtube movies of the Movie Map

What is wrong with having links to Youtube? I don't get it. I am the guy who archived the early MIT Media Lab videos, and we do have them on our own website, but the people in charge decided that it is a good thing to put them on Youtube as well, in order to make them widely accessible. So I am asking: Why is somebody undoing all page versions with Youtube links?

The irony

I just realized how ironic it is that Google Street View, the Aspen Movie Map's most comprehensive descendant, still hasn't matched the Movie Map's coverage of Aspen, Colorado as of 2011. It looks like Google drove straight down Main Street and didn't bother to stop to photograph the rest of the town. Unfortunately, I can't post that in the article because it's original research, but I'm mentioning it here so if anyone knows of an article covering this issue, then it can be sourced and put in the article someday. --Coolcaesar (talk) 19:05, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
