Verne as primary?
editThis page should be moved to Around the World in Eighty Days (disambiguation) because the book was first and is most famous. Jacob Lundberg (talk) 11:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree. Most people searching for "around the world in 80 days" are probably looking for one of the films, and probably never even heard of the book. (I sometimes think the younger generations don't even know what books are.) If the book becomes the main article then it will have to have a "for other uses see xxx" link at the top, which spoils the look of a Wikipedia page in my opinion. Users looking for one of the films will have to click on that link and then the link they really want, i.e., an extra click and an extra page. My estimate of the percentage of users who are looking for the book is 10% or less. If that is correct we'd be forcing 90% of the users to do an extra click and download an extra page, to save the 10% from having to do an extra click the way it is now. --RenniePet (talk) 12:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Jacob. The "spoiling the look" argument does nothing for me. And the book should cover the basic plot, which is key to the other works based on it. Then in context of the book, links to the other articles could be included - in addition to the "spoiling" hatnote. The "what are they looking for" argument is more compelling, but I'm not sure I agree with the numbers. Will think about it and invite other thoughts. (John User:Jwy talk) 17:27, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- I plan to rename this page to Around the World in Eighty Days (disambiguation) and have the Verne novel at this title. Many questions of the story, characters, etc. will be answered on that page and is likely to satisfy many readers. If they are looking for an adaptation, then they will find it referenced on that page or can find it through the hatnote to the dab page. Objections? (John User:Jwy talk) 19:29, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- Someone has reminded me that I had not done this. I have tried and realize we need admin intervention. I've made a request. I'll hold off fixing the redirects until the move is complete in case there are issues. --John (User:Jwy/talk) 21:17, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
