Talk:Area codes 904 and 324

905 split from 305 on Sunday July 11th, 1965

edit

The "Sprint History of Florida Area Codes" is WRONG for the creation of 904. 813 was indeed created by AT&T in 1953 for future DDD use to call southwestern Florida, but the northern and north-central parts of Florida was continued to be reached with 305 until 1965. Early 1960s phone books for Jacksonville to Pensacola indicate that their area code is still 305; phone books from all over show 305 for northern Florida in their area code and DDD pages in the early 1960s. Several newspapers in 1965 have articles which indicate that there will be a new 904 area code for northern and north-central Floria on July 11th of that year. Telephone directories didn't first show 904 for northern Florida in their DDD pages until 1965 and 1966; some directories published in Summer 1965 have references in their DDD/area code pages to begin using 904 instead of 305 on July 11th of 1965. 70.189.33.226 (talk) 15:49, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Conflicting Information about "flash-cut"

edit

The article for Area codes 305 and 786 indicates that there was a "permissive dialing period beginning July 6, 1965, and a mandatory dialing period beginning January 1, 1966". This conflicts with this articles statement that there was "no formal permissive dialing period". — Preceding unsigned comment added by RandomPessimist (talkcontribs) 17:53, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
