I'm deleting the stuff about Office Depot, Radio $hack and Walgreen's, since it all appears to be O.R. If someone doesn't think so, and can actually provide verifiable references (sorry, "Radioshack Operations Manual" isn't verifiable to the general public) then go ahead and revert it.

I agree. 700 is an area code. A non technical end user may wish to understand why their office phone numbers begin with area code 700. Offering this additional paragrah regaring the use within VOIP networks will be helpful to non technical users.
Furthermore, some ITSPs within North America are encouraging the use of this area code for private dial plans that are administered or blended with the ITSP network. NANP documents including SR83/10-076 (the original planning letter) recognized the need for software defined services within the 700 area code. While the common use for the NPA was long distance carrier identification, several other services were envisioned within the area code. AT&T Alliance Teleconferencing edit
In the early to middle 1990s, AT&T offered a multiparty conference bridge service to its subscribers using a 700 number. I no longer recall the number (I assume it's long since decommissioned) but I do recall using it once. 207.180.169.36 (talk) 23:12, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
