Talk:Arabian Sands

Hi there, I've created and started adding new information to this article not found on the Wilfred Thesiger page, I hope I'm not falling too foul of any Wikipedia rules, however I did remove three of the four or so banners that were almost instantly placed at the top of the article as after a bit of editing I felt I had addressed them. I also saw this article was already nominated for deletion, any reasons as to why? Jamesbenton (talk) 20:02, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thankyou for creating the article. You were certainly free to remove the banners if you disagreed with them, or if you addressed the issues the editor who put them there was concerned about (which you did - thanks). The notability banner was put there because the editor wasn't sure if the book was sufficiently notable to have an article on it - it is a guideline, not a rule, and generally speaking if there are two good independent in-depth references to the subject of an article, or more rather more less detailed ones, then it is sufficiently notable. You can read moreabout the guideline at WP:Notability. But this book is certainly notable by this criteria and there wasn't any realistic possibility that the article would be deleted. Thank you again for creating it. Jll (talk) 22:41, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thank you for the clarification, pretty happy that my first article has remained, I was thinking about writing one for 'Road to Oxiana' soon, maybe after beefing this one up a bit. As for a picture, I realise that photos from Amazon et cetera of the cover are probably under copyright and I'm not going to pretend to understand the technicalities of what is in the public domain and what is not, I'm assuming if I were to photograph the cover of the book myself, that would equally be a breach of copyright? Thanks again Jamesbenton (talk) 00:05, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
