Was Særimner killed? edit

As far as I remember the Norse mythology, Andhrìmnir did not kill Særimner (sorry, Danish spelling), but rather meat was cut off the live pig, and as soon as it was cut off it grew back on. There might be regional differences on the issue, but the animal would have to be pretty large if it should feed all the einherjar (given that Valhal is built so that 800 people can exit each gate at a time, and there are 540 gates, there would have to be more than 400.000 people in Valhal). --Jakob mark 13:06, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Grimnismal (stanza 18) and Gylfaginning are both quite explicit in stating that the boar is boiled or cooked so yes, it would've been killed. Gylfaginning further states that it is whole again by evening, so just think of it along the lines of a Phoenix being consumed in flames and then being resurrected from the ashes. As far as its size I'll just paraphrase an American expression and say that everything's bigger in Asgard. Cerdic 21:29, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
