Runway length

It would be nice to see some discussion of runway length at Almaty Airport. At over 14,000 feet each, the two runways are much longer than what is typical. Is this because they are also used by the military? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.191.20.74 (talk) 17:39, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

No, both runways are so long due to few reasons. The First - the airport is located close to the mountains and here is the fogs are frequent fuests (the longer runway is more reliable). The Second - the airport runway is designed for any heavy aircraft including A-380 and Boeing-747. --Ds02006 (talk) 03:26, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

International Destionations of Air Astana

Yes, Baku is added - first flight will be on 29th of March. About Amsterdam - sorry, but Air Astana is flying to Amsterdam via Atyrau. First part of the route (Almaty --> Atyrau) is fully domestic flight (without passport and customs control). A passenger from Almaty to Amsterdam will be checked at the passport control only in Atyrau Airport. --Ds02006 (talk) 07:22, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Name of agency operating the An-26 that crashed

I'm quite unfamiliar with the government and military of Kazakhstan. Is the Border Service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan the correct agency that was operating the accident aircraft, and if so, is there an accepted English-language appellation that can substitute for this awkwardly grandiloquent title?
