All-agony

Allegheny had a bad reputation in the '60s & '70s. Because it was often the only airline to small airports, we had no alternative. People used to call it 'All-agony'. I can't find documentation of this. Would it be appropriate to put on the page? If so, where?

I also remember a story about a fellow who bought a pass that allowed him unlimited flight for a limited period (a week?) and carefully scheduled a sequence of routes that maximized distance flown (and his misery, no doubt) on Allegheny. RussellBell (talk) 03:51, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

As a kid in the 60s-70s, can remember flying a few times on this airline (and possibly Lake Central before it) when it operated out of Purdue University Airport in Indiana on visits to our grandparents in Missouri (flew into St. Louis and then took a bus to the small town near their farm). My brother sometimes flew with the airline back to Grand Rapids where he was a pre-med student in Calvin College. One Sunday night, we took him to the airport only to find the Convairliner normally operated on the route was, due to a maintenance problem, replaced with a DC-3 nicknamed (as memory serves) "The Bridgette de Alllegheny" complete with blonde pinup noseart. It actually was a beautifully maintained aircraft with an immaculate paintjob. Even so, my brother was white as ghost as he walked across the ramp and boarded this tail squatting antique...after the shock wore off, he said the flight was uneventful. Would love to see a photo of this bird (if nothing else just to confirm our 50+ year old memory) - but alas have never come across one.

Perhaps I'm confused, but I thought Allegheny Airlines was the predecessor to USAir/USAirways itself? Can anyone shed light on this?

Allegheny was on was of the airlines that became US Air, that occurred after the merger between Alleghney and Mohaw Airlines

Merge/Split Fest

I'm thinking this article really needs to be partially merged into the US Airways article the Allegheny before 1979 section, and the article refocused on "Allegheny" under USAir and US Airways. I've been on a bit of a rampage organizing the merged and airlines so each airline is its own company, and this would be another part of it. Allegheny Airlines in 2008?

I photographed an Airbus A310 sporting the Allegheny Airlines tail insignia on 07/12/2008. The last 5 letters of the name "Allegheny" is also visible on the tail. Does anyone know why a modern aircraft would be sporting the insignia of a defunct airline?

It's part of US Airway's Heritage Aircraft liveries. Several A319s were painted in the colors of PSA, Allegheny, Piedmont, and America West schemes (basically all the carriers that have been merged into the US name). -Dan in PHX 12.47.205.126 (talk) 04:40, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Allegheny flight in late 1981

I recall that upon arrival at JFK, from AMS, my connecting flight to Bradley Int'l Airport Hartfort CT was operated by Allegheny. The Fokker F27 Friendship performed very well in thunderstorm and continuous lightning. The cockpit door was open during the entire flight and I could see the pilot was stuggling the extremely bad weather conditions. After a bumpy landing at Bradley the pilot explained this was just fun, his realy challenging flights were in Nam...
