Californication

edit

Did you know that Alderaan is mentioned in a sony by the red hot chili pepepers?

Space may be the final frontier But it's made in a Hollywood basement Cobain can you hear the spheres Singing songs off station to station And Alderon's not far away It's Californication

If there is a contradiction ...

edit

If there is a contradiction between the movies and the EU, the movie version should be taken as canon. Also, I don't see a contradiction between the Episode III and Episode IV descriptions. - Sikon 05:46, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Emphasis

edit

Why does the "expanded universe" depiction of Alderaan take precedence over George Lucas' own vision of it (as depicted in two movies)? --Kafziel 16:07, 2005 Jun 30 (EST)

Kafziel: I dont think it does. What we see in the movie doesnt necessarily contradict the EU at all.. we only see a glimps of Alderaan in the movie.. and of course any world will have a variety of looks to it. --Drachenfyre —Preceding undated comment added 12:55, 1 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
I agree that it's possible that the area shown wasn't representative of the entire planet, but Lucas doesn't do that very often; in the Star Wars movies, planets are the same all over. Tatooine is desert. Hoth is snow. Dagobah is swamp. Endor is forest. Coruscant is one giant city. Kamino is water.
Is it possible that for the purposes of a particular storyline, Hoth could be said to have warm sandy beaches somewhere? Sure. But I think a lot of people would have a problem with giving beaches top billing in a description of Hoth.
I'm certainly not saying it's imposssible for the EU and the movies to fit together, but as far as the definition in Wikipedia, shouldn't the visual description George Lucas has presented on film come before the description other writers have presented in other source materials? --Kafziel —Preceding undated comment added 18:21, 1 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Nowhere does it state that the entire planet is the same throughout. Just look at Earth. If you landed in the Sahara desert, you might believe that was how all Earth might be like, but thats not the case, since Earth represents every possible configuration of climate. I believe Alderaan is the same way. The other planets are as you say, one climated. --Riffsyphon1024 22:06, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
Which makes a certain sense, since it is the most like Earth (or an idealized Earth, anyways.). --Maru 01:30, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Breha, Queen of Alderaan

edit

What I find more intriguing is the descriptions in the most recen visual dictionary reguarding Alderaan: Bail takes Leia Amidala Skywalker to live in the household of his wife, the Queen of Alderaan. Also: Captain Reymas Antillies is related to the Queen of Alderaan, and lastly, that this queen is seen holding Leia at the end of Episode III. Her name is Breha, and is listed as "Breha, Queen of Alderaan".

The only thing I could discern from this is the traditional Royal Family of Alderaan was 'Antillies', and that Bail married into the Royal Family and was elevated to the title of "Prince and Viceroy".

But this goes against all that I had learned earlier, for earilier it was the Organa family that had ruled for hundred of years. But it is possible, as there has been nothing until this Visual Dictionary to offer more clarity. All printed visual dictionaries and other source books are listed as legitimate Star Wars cannon, only the movies can contradict. Your thoughts on this?

I haven't edited with the new information as yet. --Drachenfyre —Preceding undated comment added 00:43, 4 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, Breha's maiden name was Organa, and Bail took Breha's surname when they married. She could still be related to Reymas Antilles, just through marriage or something - everybody has different surnames in their family... just because Jaina & Jacen have Solo as their surname doesn't mean that they aren't related to the Skywalker family? Disambig

edit

I have changed this page to a disambig, as it contents were a mirror of Alderaan (Star Wars). Who?¿? 05:57, 19 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Is it my imagination, or is Alderaan a replica of the Earth? The climate seems to be the same, and the rotational and yearly cycles have almost the same time frame. If it really is based on the Earth, maybe we should add something about it to the page. Wikiisawesome 15:48, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I originally changed the stats of the planet as they appear in the Star Wars: The Role-Playing Game's Coruscant and the Core Worlds book. I don't know of any other source that gives details on the planet's size and all that. So whoever keeps saying Alderaan is only covered in 10% water (you can clearly see there is MORE WATER THAN THAT in the picture), and saying the size is 5000km in diameter, (that wouldn't make it much bigger than Earth's Moon!) use some common sense or learn math so you know the difference between diameter and radius. Planet Stats

edit

The planet stats listed for this world are from the Star Wars RPG. I don't know of any more official source for stats. They might be different in the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons but I don't have that book so I don't know. Anyway, some anon keeps changing the numbers - just to change the numbers - as they are always different. Cyberia23 19:45, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Coruscant solar cycle was 368 days long; with a day consisting 360 NET degrees (or 24 standard hours)

Survivors

edit

The data table says that Six Million people were off world at the time of destruction, but further into the articles history section says Sixty Thousand. I don't know enough to say what's right, so can someone who does edit it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.201.15.185 (talk) 20:10, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notability

edit

I have just tagged this article for notability. As a Star Wars fan, it seems to me that Alderaan isn't important enough to merit its own article. In terms of the in-universe story, it's really only notable because it was destroyed by the Death Star, and not for anything about the planet itself. I don't think it's notable at all outside the Star Wars universe. Thoughts?

Sorry, I just realized I forgot to sign this when I posted it. Rocky Role (talk) 16:55, 8 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

In-universe perspective

edit

This article has been tagged with a cleanup note for the past SEVEN years. I'm picking this up and cleaning up the text to bring it more in-line with Wikipedia's real-world perspective, as it's a fairly poor article at the moment. This will involve some serious re-writes and some deletion. Cnbrb (talk) 21:04, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have removed a chunk of unsourced, in-universe storytelling which has no place on Wikipedia. It's very interesting, but more appropriate for Wookieepedia. However, I have left in some edited-down Expanded Universe summary description in the "culture" section - it needs a bit of a rewrite and is currently lacking citations, but if anyone would like to add references to reliable sources this could be worth keeping.10:44, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
