Historical use of AOCs edit

Hello,

There is no history section, and thus no coverage of prior use of AOCs. During the Laotian Civil War, rather simple AOCs were used to direct air operations to great effect. It would be nice to connect air operations from that war to this article, but at present it would give the untruthful impression that the AOCs in Laos were much grander items than they were. How about it? Is anyone up to research and write a History section?

A full history section would have to include the Tactical Air Control Center that preceded the AOC (or Air & Space Operations Center}. Fundamentally the same operation, but "Tactical" and "Strategic" became dirty words in the USAF in 1991. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:03, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

It would take more than that, my geeky friend. In covert operations, AOCs could be a much simpler center than mentioned in the article. For instance, the AOC at Luang Prabang, Laos in 1970 consisted of a two room shack built out of old ammo crates. The briefing room had a few chairs, and a wall of maps of the military region thereabouts. The other room had a desk with a ledger upon it, where flight leaders listed their sorties and pilots hung out between missions. This shadow knows, because he was there. He was the AOC staff (inasmuch as it had one)>Georgejdorner (talk) 02:10, 27 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Referemces edit

I came to this page looking for sources to use for a parallel article on a unit that once served as an ASOC. The first three linked references I tried were all to dead links. The article's sources need a serious review. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:03, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
