As far as I know Aengus is not the Modern Irish language form of the name but an anglicisation influenced by the Middle Irish spelling, the Modern Irish form being Aonghus (standardised Aonghas).

I think that this page should either be reduced to a name list as an anglicised variant of Aonghas, or merged entirely into either Angus (given name) or Aonghas (given name) (which it shares most its content with), and that in both scenarios references to the form Aengus on those (and related) pages be reworded to clarify the Modern Irish language form is Aonghus and Aengus is an anglicised variant.

Currently those pages highly emphasise that Aengus is supposedly the Modern Irish form. Nearly all of the listed articles on this page are about individuals who do not live in a Gaeltacht region, in particular urban regions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:AD9B:5C1B:6DC4:6BD2 (talk) 21:39, 19 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'd be ok with merging both into Angus (given name), since it is a clear and common English equivalent of the various Goidelic forms. Akerbeltz (talk) 13:35, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
When you say merging both into Angus, does that mean merging Aengus (given name) and Aonghas into Angus (given name)? I think that would work since all these pages more or less have the exact same text just different lists. 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:A991:45F0:B579:A190 (talk) 10:51, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, merging both Aengus annd Aonghas into Angus Akerbeltz (talk) 13:45, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Will I start the merger now or does it need more input? 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:B06F:264F:C811:20E8 (talk) 19:22, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think it's uncontroversial enough to go ahead. Akerbeltz (talk) 08:52, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
