Pronunciation

edit

So, after making the pronunciation edit, I realized there is no way to verify this via the Internet. I only know because my roommate of four years was born and raised in Advance and takes serious offense to anyone mispronouncing her home town's name. Other people whom I've talked to who are from Davie County and the surrounding area also pronounce the name with the stress on the first syllable. Hopefully these personal testimonials will suffice for verification. Tony 19:54, 17 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I live in Midway, NC, not too far from Advance and I know for a fact that is is pronounced like Tony says: (Add-Vance). I've never heard any local (my cousin lives in Advance) refer to the community as "advance" like the verb. The same holds true for pronunciations on the local news. In basic court law, it takes at least two witnesses to prove something, so in a sense, this has become fact. --TinMan 19:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Local Business Section

edit

Is this encyclopedia-worthy? Half the businesses have closed. Many of the rest have changed names or are only noteworthy because they are about to be torn down, or a few locals frequent the locale. 74.218.172.130 (talk) 18:05, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would say it is encyclopedia-worthy. Advance is a "bedroom" community of Winston-Salem, and has been for 20 yrs a popular re-location place for people working there, but who do not care to live in W-S. It is arguably the fastest growing part of Davie County, over the past 20 years. Wikipedia is as good a place to mention it as any - as long as the info is sourced:)...Engr105th (talk) 20:11, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
