Talk:Adaptations of Nineteen Eighty-Four

Equals (2015) edit

I removed this entry last week, because the only reliable sources I could find were interviews from when the movie was first announced. I could not find anything after the movie was released where reviewers say "this is a movie based on 1984". I note that a different description has been recently added by 82.15.227.1, this time with no sources at all. I would like to see some sources describing this movie (the finished product, not pre-production discussion) as an adaptation of Orwell's book. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:32, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

No Comics Book Adaptation? edit

Many classic novels have been adapted in comics book form, also called graphic novels. Has this been done for 1984? If yes, shouldn't the page list them too? PhS (talk) 07:29, 18 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Chinese translation + political situation edit

@Danbloch:

  • 1. A translation is inherently an adaptation as creativity is a part to the process.
  • 2. I personally don't see how explaining how and why the Chinese government allows 1984 to be freely published in China (Something requiring explanation for a western audience) throws any balance off here. Even if editors here do agree that it would be against WP:BALASP in this particular page, I feel there needs to be an article related to 1984 that has this info, so I would write an article about translations instead.
  • Personally I think removing info for BALASP that would fit somewhere is not the best solution. Instead let it build up and then split the section when it can form a new article.

Semantically sure, you can say that a translator is adapting a work to another language, but I would argue that people reading this article aren't looking for information on translations, and people looking for information on translations probably aren't coming to this article. You acknowledge to some extent by changing "adaptations" to "translations and adaptations" in the text. As far as WP:BALASP goes, I have various issues but the main one is that putting this new content at the top of the article suggests that it's the most notable adaptation. Rather than spending time arguing about this though, I have a thought for an alternative which should make us both happy. I'd be fine if this section were in the Nineteen Eighty-Four article (which already mentions translations), adjacent to the Adaptations section. Does that work for you? @Danbloch: That would be great! WhisperToMe (talk) 03:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Equilibrium 2002 edit

Where is Kurt Wimmer's creative?164.0.152.54 (talk) 13:56, 26 January 2021 (UTC)TitusReply

Although it shares many of the same themes as Nineteen Eighty-Four, Equilibrium is an original story. Wimmer even states it has a "different message". Hoof Hearted (talk) 20:52, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
