ABE redirect to Abe or Lehigh Valley International Airport? edit

Copied from my talk page --Edcolins 20:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The "ABE" redirect is not "much more useful" going to a disambig page for some word. "ABE" in all caps is not likely to be typed in as a mistake for Abe. ABE in all caps is most likely to refer to an IATA airport code. That disambiguation page is way, way too long to be useful. I shouldn't have to scroll down half a page to reach the top Google results for "ABE." FCYTravis 20:10, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message on my talk page. IMHO, "ABE" should redirect to the disambiguation page Abe because the top Google results for "ABE" are not for Lehigh Valley International Airport.
Take the google test:
ABE "Lehigh Valley International Airport" returns 16,400 hits;
ABE "Adult Basic Education" returns 301,000 hits;
"Lehigh Valley International Airport" is not much more used than any other terms or phrases (see Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Primary topic). The fact that the article Adult Basic Education does not exist yet does not change anything to it. ABE redirecting to "Lehigh Valley International Airport" may even have discouraged some from creating the article. By the way, I don't think the disambiguation is too long. There is a table of content which helps. Cheers. --Edcolins 20:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
If there's a disambiguation page, ABE should be split from Abe. The table of contents is meaningless - I shouldn't have to scroll down a full page to get the results I'm looking for. There's no reason to conflate two different terms for the sake of unnecessary "cleanliness." If I type in "ABE" I'm looking for an acronym, not "Abe Lincoln." Ok, good idea. Split done. --Edcolins 19:10, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
