From personal experience, the 484 AEW was responsible for administrative control (ADCON) of all Air Force personnel who were embedded and deployed with the Army in Iraq. They provided logistical support to fulfill needs of Air Force units that the US Army wasn't able to meet. They supervised a variety of forward-deployed Air Force personnel, primarily Air Liaison Officers, Tactical Control Parties, and Combat Weathermen.

The unit first stood up at Prince Sultab AB, Saudi Arabia early in 2003 (or maybe earlier) but then transferred to Al Udeid AB, Qatar by spring 2003. The unit was downgraded to the 484 Air Expeditionary Group in September 2003. There were plans to eliminate the group completely and merge it with the Southwest Asia Air Operations Center sometime after, but I departed before I had any further contact with the unit.

Made a minor revision to clarify the locations since the 484AEW existed long before OIF (2003). I continue to search for infomration and documents that can be used to update this page. Sgtgary (talk) 05:15, 16 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
