Merge proposal edit

According to The Handbook of British Regiments, this regiment was a continuation of the 21st Regiment of (Light) Dragoons. I propose that we merge these two articles together; I'm not doing so boldly, as previously that article said the two regiments were unrelated, although the source provided did not support this claim. Further, I'm not familiar with the relevant guidelines for these articles, so it may be that they are deliberately separate. BilledMammal (talk) 13:12, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think they were separate. The 21st Lancers was a newly raised regiment formed in India in 1858. I usually refer to Regiments.org to resolve such matters.
The 21st Regiment of Light Dragoons was disbanded at Chatham in 1821. See Regiments.org. There does not seem to have been any continuation in between. Dormskirk (talk) 13:22, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
The following provides a direct chronology between the two:

The Twenty-first (Empress of India's) Lancers
1759-63. The 21st Light Dragoons, or Royal Windsor Foresters: disbanded.
1779-83. The 21st Light Dragoons: disbanded.
1794-1819. The 21st Light Dragoons: disbanded.
1858. The East India Company's 3rd Bengal European Cavalry.
1858-62. The 3rd Bengal European Cavalry.
1862-1897. The 21st Hussars.
1897-9. The 21st Lancers.
1899 (from). The 21st (Empress of India's) Lancers.[1]
