South Africa test edit
The match against South Africa is a warm-up match for this tour and is therefore totally relevant to the subject being discussed. There is also precedent for including warm-up matches in tour articles, c.f. 2010 Wales rugby union tour of New Zealand, 2012 Wales rugby union tour of Australia, 2018 Wales rugby union tour to Argentina and the United States, etc. For the 2018 tour, the warm-up match was also not played in Wales. – PeeJay 15:46, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- The pre-tour match between Wales and South Africa is a separate non-tour fixture, with the relevant information already located on the article: 2024 mid-year rugby union tests. Peejay cites three examples in which this appears to be common practice, all of whom are Welsh tours. The first cited example (2010 Wales tour of New Zealand) was actually edited by Peejay themself (Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2010_Wales_rugby_union_tour_of_New_Zealand&diff=prev&oldid=1209893323) to include Wales' pre-tour match against South Africa, which was not originally in the article when it was created. However this information was already accessible at 2010 June rugby union tests. The example cited in the "2018 Wales tour to Argentina and the United States" isn't actually a pre-tour fixture as Wales were on tour and the match was a one-off match with regards to Tier I teams touring schedules. The only example cited by Peejay that is consistent with their editing practice is the 2012 tour of Australia (Wales fixture against the Barbarians). This is also a consistent practice for all British & Irish Lions tours, which is not a national team that play fixtures on a regular basis. The precedent for including warm-up matches in tour articles is extremely rare. In fact, of all the Tier I teams touring the Southern Hemisphere in 2024 (England, France, Ireland, Wales), only one has their pre-tour fixture included in their tour article: Wales. – MarioBayo (talk) 16:19, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see the need to avoid including matches in both articles. Each team's summer programme is part of a combined schedule involving the same squad (injuries aside). The tour articles can be far more detailed than the YYYY mid-year rugby union tests articles, which is actually something I've been working towards for the Wales series. You should probably also check out the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2017 Wales tour articles. Have fun trying to debunk those. – PeeJay 16:53, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
