Teams from EL to CL
editI dont understand why Eintracht of Roma can move to CL 24-25 from EL 24-25. In the page CL 24-25 there written that Shakhtar and Benfica move to group stage. So why Eintracht or Roma can move to CL? Then there will not free places in CL. Write please.
- It's to do with the European performance spots. As Dortmund finished fifth, they wouldn't normally qualify for the group stage unless they win the Champions League this season. If they do so, the European performance spot for Germany would be passed to the sixth-placed team, Eintracht Frankfurt. This could be the same in Italy if Atalanta finish fifth and win the Europa League.
- This is difficult to understand, I've taken a while to get my head round it. Especially because Leverkusen winning the Europa League doesn't get Germany an extra spot (in that case the Europa League title holders berth is vacated and that's how Benfica could qualify directly). This was NEVER the case.
edit"The new format also does not allow teams to transfer from the Champions League knockout stage to the Europa League knockout stage" This never happened anyway. The "last chance" teams had was to finish 3rd place in the GROUP STAGE and then fall directly in the E.L. knockouts. After the C.L. group stage elimination was always permanent.
