Does this really need an article of its own? edit

No sources with any info about this for really long time and literally nothing happened during to this so-called offensive. Should be merged into some other article or just deleted entirely. Just because Osoud al-Sharqiyah claims they made advances through Syrian Desert(literally capturing nothing at all) doesn't mean it deserves an article of its own, should probably be merged into 2016 Abu Kamal offensive where US-backed groups also were driving through Syrian Desert, or maybe into more recent 2017 Baghdad–Damascus highway offensive, another option could be 2017 southern Syrian Desert campaign GroundlessAir (talk) 16:22, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, should be in the aftermath section under "Syrian Desert Offensive" wikipage. --Rr016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rr016 (talkcontribs) 18:08, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I also agree, it should be merged with the aftermath section of the 2017 southern Syrian Desert campaign. EkoGraf (talk) 20:18, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Okay, considering the opinions, I guess the southern Syrian Desert offensive should be renamed into Syrian Desert offensive ("southern" word removed), and this article merged into it, I just wanna say I haven't merged articles before, anyone knows how to do it and maybe could do it? No need to remove the southern part. That campaign specifically focused on the southern part of the Syrian Desert. That operation is now over and the Homs-Deir Ezzor offensive is a totally new one, this being the reason I agreed that it should go into the aftermath section of that article. It did happen. I guess it's more of a clash. But yes I think it's too insignifacnt on its own. MonsterHunter32 (talk) 23:47, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. The previous southern desert campaign was aimed at eastern Suwayda and the Qalamoun, which are the westernmost points in the front. On the other hand, this offensive is happening at the easternmost front and appears to be a serious attempt to reach Abu Kamal, with US forces and all. I suggest that the Homs-Deir ez-Zor offensive be merged with the Baghdad-Damascus offensive instead. Editor abcdef (talk) 00:25, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

The rebel Homs-Deir ez-Zor offensive and the government Baghdad-Damascus highway offensive are two totally different offensives, no reason to merge. While, the rebel Homs-Deir ez-Zor offensive comes as a result of the rebel success during their earlier southern desert campaign. Unless maybe we put the Homs-Deir ez-Zor one into the background section of the highway offensive, then yes I may see proper reasoning to merge these two. Hmmm, how about this, we mention the Homs-Deir ez-Zor one in both the aftermath section of the desert campaign, and in the background section of the highway offensive. To be honest even though they want to reach Deir Ezzor, the offensive has been started from South Syria. MonsterHunter32 (talk) 21:10, 20 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
