Link in name edit

Earlier Crowsus added in a buch of information including | a wikilinked reference by a players name with the word "Kike" in it. Since it's pretty common knowledge that Kike is an offensive word directed towards Jewish People, I removed the link | here. Now admittedly, this removal went too far and removed valid information , and I was questioned for removing ALL of the information, correctly so. So I | carefully removed the offensive term only, Crowsus's edit summary was slightly incivil ( to be honest, I foiund it amusing that he'd accuse me of drinking, especially since I'm in the program and haven't had a drink in 27 years or so  :) . He insisted that Kike is a common spanish nickname and that I'd broken his Wikilink, however the Wikilink in question only mentions the offensive term to Jewish people and not anything to do with a spanish nickname. Since I'm not fluent, I decided to put this here and get consensus as I'm right at 3rr. Any Spanish speakers want to chime in? Is this a "common Spanish nickname" as Crowsus claims it is ? OK, first I'll apologise for any offence caused by the drinking remark, it was meant in jest. And well done for beating the problem. Likewise, I'm sorry if you were upset by that word being in the article.

However there are two big issues here. The first is that initially you removed a while blanket of valid edits without explanation due to one phrase in one edit which you perceived as to be a sneaky insult. I acknowledge that you then focused on the phrase in question. But you have simply got this all wrong I'm afraid. The link was piped, and the hidden information went to the correct article. And that article refers to a footballer called Kike (to rhyme with Enrique, of which it is a shortened version), not the other offensive pronunciation to rhyme with bike. If you look at the 'Disambiguation' on the Kike article you will note there are several other pages for people named Kike. It is definitely unfortunate that they are spelled the same way, but it happens. In 2 other footballer examples, see Kaká vs caca and Rafael Scheidt vs Shite. I'm not sure why the Spanish name doesn't have an accent like José since the last letter is emphasised, but it doesn't. So if you want to remove any sneaky anti Jewish terms (which I totally agree you should do!), please read the context of the articles to make sure that it is the correct thing to do. Hope that explains things and again sorry for my tone if it has annoyed you. Best regards. Crowsus (talk) 19:04, 17 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
