Contested deletion edit

This page should not be speedily deleted because...Fiji will not qualify automatically. There will be a tournament. [1] --My Dinner With Andre The Giant (talk) 15:57, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Home & Away vs One Off for the Final edit

So my recent edit, changing the final from a home & away to a one off, was reverted. I just want to verify that this is correct.

A home & away is mentioned on pina.com.fj, here, however the RWC website still shows a single game deciding the winner. In the case of a discrepancy, I'd be more likely to side with RWC / IRB. Is PINA's version of events verified anywhere? Grande (talk) 01:24, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm inclined to go with the PINA version. The IRB has repeatedly publicized false information about qualifying. Their website showed Costa Rica participating in the 2012 Consur B tournament practically until the event began. You may also be aware of several articles on that website (since removed, shamefully with no note of correction) playing up Cyprus and their participation in qualifying - all the while, of course, Cyprus was not eligible to qualify or participate in qualifying due to the IRB's own rules. The link you provided doesn't have any information about the FORU tournament other than the month and the country in which it will be held. Also, if you look at the same site's list of upcoming fixtures, the FORU matches are not included, even though they will all happen prior to matches shown on that list. All of this suggests a site that is badly out of date. The fact that PINA's article is the most recent information we have, combined with the IRB's track record of misinformation, make relying on the IRB's account quite suspect. My Dinner With Andre The Giant (talk) 08:41, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, not that it necessarily matters, but in each of the three RWCs in which Tier 3 Oceania countries participated in qualifying (2003-2011), the playoff between the top Tier 3 country and the bottom Tier 2 country has been two-legged. That's certainly no guarantee that it will be repeated this time, but I think it lends some credence to the PINA version of events. My Dinner With Andre The Giant (talk) 09:08, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, I just wanted to verify. I knew the official website was sometimes inaccurate (I heard about the Cyprus fiasco, for example), but I didn't realise how bad they were. The historical context does add something as well. Thanks for the clarification. Grande (talk) 11:23, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
