Election Map

What is the source for the 2012 POTUS Alaskian election map? I have been looking for a source for election results by borough (Alaska doesn't have counties), and instead found [1] claim (comment #2) that no records are kept by the state and the image from this Wiki page that cites no sources. Having done a lot of work with the Alaska election results provided by the Division of Elections, I can attest that this map and the one from 2008 can not possibly be accurate. Reporting of in precinct results is done on a precinct by precinct basis, and I have not yet found a precinct that straddles two boroughs or census areas, but absentee, question or challenged, and early voting are aggregated over the 40 house districts of Alaska's lower legislative chamber. It looks very much like the proffered map is the result of reporting just the individual precinct totals. Any attempt to allocate these votes among the larger census areas which encompass multiple census areas is bound to be guesswork, and they comprise something close 30% of all ballots cast. Since early voting and questioned ballots skew Democratic, some places with high amounts of early voting may be painted the wrong color. More to the point, Petersburg Borough's formation was a ballot issue in 2012, so if its results are listed in this map, it's an anachronism.--2601:B:8000:67E:949E:19BA:FAAE:C8EB (talk) 07:05, 26 May 2014 (UTC) John Foelster

Most election results used as sources on here are derivative of the official results found on the Alaska Division of Elections website. Presumably, these sources are regarded as independent and third-party, but depending on the source, OR may be imbedded and passed off as gospel (a frequent complaint I've had of ourcampaigns.com). The official results are tabulated by voting precinct, election district and statewide. In some cases, there are tabulations by judicial division. This mostly applies to judicial retention elections, but was also used historically in other elections. I would think that any other breakdown could be OR, except that local and topical media outlets (such as Congressional Quarterly, perhaps?) may publish such a tabulation on their own from time to time or regularly. If there is an OR issue here, it could also apply to the presidential election results found in community articles. RadioKAOS  – Talk to me, Billy 03:39, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

I think we should begin to use maps that show Alaska results by house district. The Alaska Board of Elections reported results for this election by its 40 house districts, not by borough and census area. If there are any .SVG maps of Alaska's house districts on Wikimedia, direct me to it, and I can begin to create the map.--Mr.Election (talk) 17:39, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
