Name
editThis page has been moved back to "2008 Wallabies Spring tour". Why do we have a different naming convention for Australian tours to all other countries? The normal format is the date, name of the touring country and the name of the countries visited. "Wallabies Spring tour" means nothing - doesn't identify it as a rugby union page for example, and "Spring" is hemisphere-centric anyway - in the Northern Hemisphere it would be the Wallabies Autumn Tour. I'm proposing to move this, and the similarly-named pages to a more standard format along the lines of "xxxx Australia rugby union tour of xxxxxxxxx" but will wait to see what other editors think. --Bcp67 (talk) 14:56, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- I fully agree the current naming convention is not adequate and your suggestion is much better. I know other pages list all the possible countries the tour goes to, would it not be simpler to just call it ""xxxx Australia rugby union outgoing tour"? Surely, 1972–73 New Zealand rugby union tour of Britain, Ireland, France and North America (for example) is a bit over the top and "1972–73 New Zealand rugby union outgoing tour" should suffice? - Agreed that the it should be as it is currently of xxxx Australia rugby union tour of xxxxxxxxx. I think that when the tour goes to a lot of places, then use the continents. for example, 1972–73 New Zealand rugby union tour of Britain, Ireland, France and North America could easily be changed to 1972–73 New Zealand rugby union tour of Europe and North America. - All makes sense to me. I'd support that. noq (talk) 18:58, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- I like the more minimal idea suggested by TheMightyPeanut - provided there was no ambiguity, something like "xxxx Australia rugby union tour" (or outgoing tour) would work - I think when I've created tour articles I used the title which Rothmans Rugby (Union) Yearbooks gave, which did have the major countries visited listed (they were always happy to overlook the game's outposts), but provided the title is clear-cut enough I'm not too fussy. I'm not proposing to get into changing the bulk of the existing articles at the moment, just these "xxxx Wallabies Spring tour" ones. In the absence of any further comments, I'll move this to 2008 Australia rugby union tour in a couple of days. --Bcp67 (talk) 06:15, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
