The first versions of this article seemed to be an almost direct copy from the IOC news story: here, edited slightly which only made it more unintelligible. Besides being a copywrite violation, this was blatantly non-POV. I think it makes more sense to curtail information until after the event actually happens than to copy POV information from the official brochure. There was also a female streaker [1], complete with blonde hair, high heels and black stockings, but she did not made it to television. The guy was for GoldenPalace.com, but the girl was politically motivated against Silvio Berlusconi.Hektor 23:27, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

I got that on German TV. There is a previous example in curling [2]. GoldenPalace.com seems to do that quite often.Hektor 23:44, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

The whole point of the stunt was to get free publicity. I suggest we do as the MSNBC article does and only indicate that it was done by a online line gambling site so as to deny them any via Wikipedia. Caerwine Caerwhine 03:47, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I have no problem with it being on the page about Golden Palace or on these less looked at talk pages, but rewarding disruption with the publicity sought only encourages more of it.       • A reasonable compromise, since it doesn't reward them with in article text but does provide a way for those interested in more detail to access it. I made a small change in the text used to anchor the link so that it is clearer that it is a link to the specific idiots that were irresponsible for the disruption and not online casinos in general. Ceremony or Ceremonies?

The title of this article is 2006 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony but throughout it is referred to as the ceremonies. We should probably be consistent. Either change the title to plural, with a rederict, rewrite the article to reference the event as singular. Crunch 13:13, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

The media and the website use the plural form. Even though I don't know the reason for the use of plural though, I support following the official norm with ceremonies. --Kvasir 14:54, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

David Emerson

Any sign of him in these Olympics? Was he suppose to be at the Games representing the Canadian federal government? The mayor was there, the premier was there, and even the GG and her family, where's the federal government? David Emerson was created Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics afterall. Did he get recalled already? --Kvasir 00:52, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne's performance was actually part of the Vancouver segment of the ceremonies. However, it also fits with the musical finale portion too. I've added the Avril mention to the Vancouver segment as well; I'm going to let you guys decide which section it should go under (right now there are two Avril mentions in the article), since I'm not that experienced with Olympic articles and don't know too much about any "structural rules" of such articles. --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK! 07:07, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Music

Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone knew what the music used in the closing ceremonies was and if that could be added to the article. I did read elsewhere (http://courier-journal.gns.gannettonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060226/OLYMPICS/602260301/1024) that a tribute to Niccolo Paganini's music was used in the finale as well.
