Talk:1st Mountain Division

History of the title

edit

At a glance, it appears that the accompanying main-namespace title was reassigned to the function of Dab, with the WWII-division article formerly there being renamed to 1st Mountain Division (Wehrmacht), likely in response to what is now Talk:1st Mountain Division (Wehrmacht)#should be renamed.
There are 15 articles that had a link either to the accompanying Dab intended for its red-lk "leg", or explicitly naming that same red link, and it's likely that my blue-lk to one of those pages is not the ideal one. In fact, there may be enuf just at those 15 pages combined to write a decent stub at 1st Mountain Division (Bundeswehr) to replace my red/blue-pair entry.

Sparse post-war info on en:WP

edit

The one important thing that's clear to me is that it's far-fetched to regard 1st Mountain Division (Bundeswehr) as re-embodying 1st Mountain Division (Wehrmacht), since there were multiple WWII mountain divisions in the Wehrmacht, and if anything the taint of the old 1st's atrocities probably means that the old 1st was underrepresented (compared to the ten others) among the mtn vets permitted to be in the new 1st, which was apparently the only postwar mtn division. (Note that what now remains of mtn forces is one of the two brigades of a (nominally) armored division.)
All of this adds to the value of having at least a stub for the new 1st Mountain; ideally, it would have at least dates for the breakup of the new 1st Mtn & formation of the current mtn brigade. I think they are there in the second (not currently addressable) sub-section of de:Gebirgstruppe_(Deutschland)#Die_Gebirgstruppe_der_Bundeswehr, tho i want to brush up my vocabulary for doing a full translation of at least the subsection, before attempting alone to extract that info. (Perhaps a native speaker who can quickly outdo me will have sufficient interest.)
