Scope of this article? edit

This is confusing. It appears like it should be a redirect to List of All-Pac-12 Conference men's basketball teams, but according to the author it's not related. What is the significance of this honor? Which specific organizations voted for this? If it's unrelated to the 1982–83 Pacific-10 Conference men's basketball season, then why is that a category? I'm considering an AfD pending the answers to these concerns. Jrcla2 (talk) 19:34, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Additional eyeballs appreciated. As global context, the CFB project has struggled with news org vs conference-selected content in these types of annual articles and the Categories may need additional refinement. Regional articles like these already have acceptance, such as Category:College Football All-Southern Teams and Category:All-Pacific Coast football teams -where you can see some recent and ongoing cleanup including better categorization over the last few days.
In specific, "All-Coast" is a west-coast designation which preceded what became the Pac-12 Conference. Annual All-Coast selections include at least football and men's basketball. Various media orgs and even coaches participated in the designation, with exact participation varying over the decades, as can be seen such as in 1926 All-Pacific Coast football team (AP, UP) and 1952 All-Pacific Coast football team (+INS), 1916 All-Pacific Coast football team (+coaches).
The "All-Coast" designation is used extensively such as in historical news articles, west-coast university media guides (San Francisco Dons, not a Pac-8/10/12 member), HoF induction notes, player obituaries, etc as emblematic of the player's accomplishments. This initial men's basketball article is supported to par with the existing football articles (categories, citations, etc), though is obviously a brand new stub at this moment and tagged accordingly. These All-Coast teams existed annually and expectation is that they can be flushed out as has been done with the equivalent All-Coast football articles over the last year or so. I've worked extensively on the CBB and CFB projects for years and this All-Pacific Coast honor is the first time I've heard of it. For context for all users, each and every yearly award article such as this should have a fleshed out explanation of what the honor even is. If someone who works in these WikiProjects doesn't know, how will the casual reader? That's who this should be written toward.
Also, I'm still not sure why Category:1982–83 Pacific-10 Conference men's basketball season is included. If this is not a conference specific honor, why is it on there? Jrcla2 (talk) 21:24, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
