Top Hits On Record

Starting with 1929, this section became meaningless. It is hard for me to believe an administrator looked at it. Remember the word "Top". After apptoximately 40 total selections in the preceeding two years combined, all of a sudden there are 100+ selections, without a single reference to at least prove the record exists. No notices. I can tell these are old, and I am guessing instead of passing a $1.2 trillion bi-partisan infra-structure bill, editors ignored it No, I don't believe that, but year after year of these pages still exist, despite all the rules we follow...now.

We need to do a quick fix (mostly to remove the mass of unreferenced listings that are represented as "Top Hits". I am familiar with many songs, records, hits, genres after a lifetime of studying (which means I still know nothing), and there are large sections I don't recognize.

I do know a lot about the top hits of each year, when they were published, recorded and released, and even back in the 1920s, I have collected sales information published by the best discographers, and I am intimately familiar with Joel Whitburn's attempts to create history. I am also aware of how the early charts from the 1940s by Billboard, Cashbox, and others were put together, which relieves all worries about mishandling most of the pre-1950s data. Thank God for what we have, but those early charts are riddled with errors, inconsistencies and I use them as a frame of reference.

My advice is to keep "Top Hifs" to 15-20 places. What we currently have is somebody's favorite songs. I have plenty of insights and ideas, and if you want me to help, I will. In the last six months, I rebuilt the Country charts from 1928 - 1944, without any help. Several years had three songs, and one had zero; now they all have around fifteen. All the records exist, were released during the year listed, and the odds are very good they belong in the list I put them in. Tillywilly17 (talk) 18:04, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

1929 list might be copied from Whitburn or somebody else

I see many years where surveys from RYM are included in chart compilation
