this subject is needed all over the world and there is not 1 decent page on it i am absolutely apauled especially at wikipedia!

It should be noted that Mossel Bay and Algoa Bay are far (some 300 nautical miles) east of the Cape of Good Hope - not as implied in the contribution. First, sailing south, one passes the Orange River mouth on the port side. Some time after that one would steer east and so clear said Cape of Good Hope en-route to India and other points east. Mossel Bay and Algoa Bay would, of course still be on the port beam. Later on one would encounter Madagascar, hopefully also on the port side. If one finds it on the starboard side then the vessel is located in the "hurricane" channel between Moscambique and Madagascar - not a good place to be.41.13.80.76 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 13:57, 13 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
