French Croix de Geurre with Palm

edit

My great-grandfather served in B Troop 121 Squadron. According to his book "The 106th Cavalry Group in Europe", the Croix de Guerre with Palm was awarded to the 106th under edict 872 and 873. There is no mention of it being awarded to only the 121. According to this edict it was the Regiment as a whole for both awards. According to Edict 977 the fouraragere with colors was awarded to the 106th as a whole. There must be some confusion here on the subject because I have found several sources, one being an internet source of a son of one of the soldiers, that says on CdG went only to the 121 squadron while the other went to the whole 106th. Other than the book, my great-grandfather's discharge papers are useless in confirming this due to the fact he left the ETO at the end of July 1945. His Army of Occupation Medal and WWII Victory medal are not listed due to the fact they did not come into existence until after he left even though he was entitled to them. Also these edicts were not made official until a month after he left, so they never made it to his file. I am also finding that Croix de Guerre were often not place in individual soldiers files unlike unit awards of today are. Does anyone have anymore info. I would hate to leave something on here that is incorrect.76.177.132.252 (talk) 21:02, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is your g-g-grandfather J.P. Himmer? His [http://www.amazon.com/106th-Cavalry-Group-Europe-1944-1945/dp/B0010ED40I book] is quite rare, currently fetching $600 on Amazon. Quite a find. — btphelps (talk) (contribs) 05:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
