I see that Amazon lists the album Broadcast as having been released on 1985, though the infobox here says it was released in the US in 1987. Can someone confirm the correct year?  — [Unsigned comment added by Jeff Muscato (talk • contribs).]

Amazon is wrong. The minor label Siren first released the album in 1986. The Virgin U.S. release lagged the first UK release by some months and the debut single, first charting at the end of 1986, peaked on the U.S. charts at the beginning of 1987. The band was formed in 1985, and initially signed by Siren in late 1985. Demos for some of the album's material existed at that time, but that's not the release date. And, of course, Cutting Crew wrote and are the only internationally notable artists to have recorded the song. (Frequently relatively anonymous dance acts cover '80s songs, but no name bands such as those mentioned above.)

Additionally, for editors inclined to remove the unsourced material about the erroneous artist attribution, while I did not add that part I would argue that the unsourced element of that claim is precisely the point: the origin of this song, and a number of others, has been popularly corrupted by a decade of illegal file sharing and leaving this mention in will help to clarify that this isn't simply a version of the song, but the version. Having said that, let's not go overboard in listing artists who have been incorrectly associated with the song. There may be dozens but the point is made just as well by naming only a few. There are articles about songs which have been covered by artists who aren't all named. We don't want to turn this paragraph into a magnet for people to purposely misattribute the song in order to add their own favorite artist to this list. Such additions will be removed as vandalism. ...and that section of the article was deleted. Not by me. Arguably it wasn't all that encyclopedic, at least not without references. Still, it seems like the fact that there are so many mistagged copies of the song in circulation deserves mention here, if only to fend off people adding them thinking they're legitimate covers. One of the unfortunate side effects of mistagged music files is that some listeners seem to get pretty entrenched in thinking that their mistagged copy is correct and are reluctant to concede that it's not. I can't help wondering if the person who removed that paragraph from the article is just such a listener. --mwalimu59 (talk) 17:02, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

No they didn't. Neither did Journey, Duran Duran, REO Speedwagon, Whitesnake, Richard Marx, a-ha, Air Supply, Simply Red, Eddie Money, Meat Loaf... Quite simply, this song has been mistagged as being by a lot of artists that have never covered it. Confusion over length

Even though the article says the song is 4 minutes 41 seconds long (4:41), I have the pirated album on which it runs at 4:25 (4 minutes 25 seconds), why this difference in length? American single release date

We are telling the reader that the song was released on 1 January 1987 in the USA. What good sources are there for that date? Especially 20th century sources?

The single first entered US Hot 100 charts at position 80 during the week of 7 March 1987.[1] Let's figure out whether 1 January makes sense. Binksternet (talk) 02:25, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
