Stu Brooks (also known as Stu "Bassie" Brooks) is a Grammy nominated bassist, composer, producer, musical director and co-founder of the genre-bending, experimental group Dub Trio.[1] He is known for playing and/or recording with the Saturday Night Live Band,[2] Lady Gaga,[3] Mike Patton,[4] Mark Guiliana,[5] Dr. John,[6] GRiZ, G-Unit,[7] Matisyahu,[8] Pretty Lights,[9] and Meshell Ndegeocello,.[10]

BiographyEdit

Stu Brooks is a Canadian born/Brooklyn-based bass player, producer and songwriter. His has worked with artists such as Pretty Lights,[11] Mike Patton,[12] Lady Gaga,[13] Lauryn Hill,[14] 50 Cent,[15] Meshell Ndegeocello,[16] Mobb Deep,[17] Mary J. Blige,[18] Collie Buddz,[19] Slick Rick,[20] Eric Krasno,[21] Mark Guiliana,[22] Adam Deitch[23] and Tupac Shakur (posthumously).[24]

His bass performances have played a role in the creation of many Billboard charting, Grammy nominated and Platinum certified recordings, including; Pretty Lights’ 2013 Grammy nominated “A Color Map Of The Sun”,[25] #7 Billboard hit “So Seductive featuring 50 Cent” and Tony Yayo's Platinum Certified “Thoughts of a Predicate Felon”.[26]

Brooks currently serves as the bassist and musical director for Grammy-nominated artist, Matisyahu. His work with Matisyahu dates back to 2009 and spans four albums and multiple international tours. In 2014, Stu co-wrote and produced Matisyahu's release Akeda.[27][28]

During the summer of 2015, Brooks toured as the bassist for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted artist, Dr. John.[29]

Leading into 2016, Brooks is working on new material for upcoming releases from Dub Trio and Matisyahu.[30]

Starting in 2018 Brooks has been a sub in the Saturday Night Live Band.

Brooks also preformed at Coachella in 2022[31] as Danny Elfman's bassist. The set included 'Oingo Boingo' covers and new songs Elfman had been working on since his Coachella debut was delayed by COVID.
