Sharifabad, Alborz

Sharifabad (Persian: شريف اباد), also Romanized as Sharīfābād;[3] formerly Sharifiyeh (شريفيه), is a city in Mohammadiyeh District of Alborz County, Qazvin province, Iran, serving as the administrative center for Sharifabad Rural District.[4]

At the 2006 census, its population was 16,551 in 4,248 households, when it was the village of Sharifabad in Sharifabad Rural District.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 21,009 people in 6,112 households,[6] by which time the village had been elevated to the status of a city and renamed Sharifiyeh.[4] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 20,347 people in 6,074 households.[2]

In October 2023, the name of city was changed back to Sharifabad.[7]
