Controversies edit

Suicide attempt edit

In October 2020, Ramakrishnan was denied a chance to perform Mohiniyattam in the online dance festival program of Kerala Sangeet Natak Academy which led to controversy.[7] He reportedly attempted suicide for alleged caste discrimination against him.[8]

Colourist remarks made by Satyabhama edit

In March 2024, a Mohiniyattam dancer Satyabhama made a comment that she did not like dark skinned males performing Mohiniyattam.[9] In protest, the next day he performed a Mohiniyattam concert in the art gallery near the Chalakkudy Government hospital.[10] The Kerala Kalamandalam condemned the racist remarks made by classical dancer Satyabhama. Kalamandalam says its name prefixed to Sathyabhama is a blight on the institution.[11]
