What appears to be the statement that the english quote is derived from: "Voyons, quand j’ai peint une fesse et que j’ai envie de taper dessus, c’est qu’elle est finie.", is quoted in Bonafoux, Pascal (2009). Renoir: 1841-1919 (in French). Paris: Perrin. p. 246. ISBN 9782262027315. Vexations (talk) 18:10, 17 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

The oldest source for the quote that I've been able to find is Vollard, Ambroise; Renoir, Auguste (1920). Auguste Renoir (1841-1919): avec onze illustrations, dont huit phototypies (in French). Paris: G. Crès.. A copy is at https://archive.org/details/augusterenoir18400voll and the full text is available at https://archive.org/stream/augusterenoir18400voll/augusterenoir18400voll_djvu.txt The relevant section is on page 57. The English translation is Vollard, Ambroise (1990). Renoir: an intimate record. New York; London: Dover : Constable. ISBN 0486264882.. Vexations (talk) 19:32, 17 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
