February 2020

edit

The link for Camp Fire 2018 is actually to a https://www.foxnews.com/us/at-least-50-more-deaths-likely-attributable-to-camp-fire-report and not to NBC as reported. Xianjiro (talk) 16:03, 12 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@X1\: Citing previous bad edits isn't an excuse for ignoring the editing guidelines. "If a news item is part of a larger event, list it under a subheader consisting of a link to the larger event. Don't create subheaders linking to general topics or lists." The current events portal is supposed to be a list of current events grouped by topic. Adding a specific subheader for every individual event isn't necessary. Kaldari (talk) 01:13, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Kaldari, it is now moot. X1\ (talk) 01:24, 18 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Kaldari, I spoke too soon, per change.

TenorTwelve and Mount Patagonia, it appears we all need to come to an understanding whether to keep the item as it, keep it but change it, or remove it entirely. X1\ (talk) 22:03, 18 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hmm... I don't know the whole editing saga on this but here's what I'll have to say. 2050 is a long time from now, so that means they will hypothetically be emitting fossil fuels for 30 more years. "Aiming" for something 30 years later might be a way for BP to get headlines but conveniently neglect to carry out as time goes on. If there isn't a firm commitment, this announcement doesn't mean anything. There is a phenomenon called greenwashing in which companies take small actions on the environment to look good without really systematically changing things which amounts to more of a PR stunt. This isn't transformational enough to be considered climate change mitigation. Inclusion of this does more to advertise BP than convey news in my opinion. -TenorTwelve (talk) 22:32, 18 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
2050 is a long time from now and "Aiming" seems to be a wp:Weasel word, and it is non-binding; so I am leaning toward TenorTwelve's complete removal of item. X1\ (talk) 22:25, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
