- 1939 - The 1939 California tropical storm struck California as a tropical storm, becoming one of only few tropical cyclones ever recorded to make landfall in the state. The storm killed 45 people.
- 1992 - Tropical Storm Danielle (pictured) reaches peak intensity with winds of 100 km/h (65 mph) before landfall in North Carolina where it killed only two people.
