- 1998 - Hurricane Mitch (pictured) made landfall in Honduras with its excessive rains causing severe landslides and flooding throughout Central America. Mitch killed nearly 20,000 people and caused more than $5 billion of damage.
- 2007 - Tropical Storm Noel struck Haiti, killing 222 people along its path through the Greater Antilles.
- 2012 - Hurricane Sandy became an extratropical cyclone just before making landfall on New Jersey. Its large size and high storm surge caused US$75 billion in damage and 233 deaths across the Northeastern United States.
