Background edit

Production on the album began in early 2022, shortly after the release of Old Dog, New Tricks, the deluxe edition to Glaive's 2021 EP All Dogs Go to Heaven. On June 24, he released the single "Minnesota Is a Place That Exists", which was initially intended to be the lead single for the album.[3] Around this time, he supported The Kid Laroi on his End of the World Tour.[4] He would then announce his own headlining tour, the America Is a Place That Exists Tour, which took place in September and October 2022.[3] During this tour, he would play some unreleased songs, most of which had leaked online alongside several other tracks in July of that year. On September 28, he released the single "Three Wheels and It Still Drives!", which was also originally to be included on the album.[5] Glaive would continue to preview unreleased tracks in late 2022 and early 2023. He went to Tbilisi, Georgia in April 2023 to film music videos for the album. Finally, on April 28, he released the album's official lead single, "As If", alongside its music video, which was filmed in Tbilisi.[6] In May, he released "I'm Nothing That's All I Am", the album's second single. Alongside the track's release, Glaive announced that the album would be released on July 14, and revealed its cover art[7] which was taken at the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre in Latvia. On June 7, he released the album's third single, "All I Do Is Try My Best", alongside its music video, which was also filmed in Tbilisi.[8] The album's fourth single, "The Car", was released on June 30, alongside its music video.

Tour edit

On April 28, 2023, Glaive announced a headlining tour to support the album. It took place from July 27 – August 19, and featured Origami Angel, Oso Oso, and Polo Perks as supporting acts.[9]

I Care So Much That I Don't Care at All received a score of 70 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic based on four critics' reviews, indicating "generally favorable" reception.[10] NME's Ali Shutler described the album as "a world away from the technicolour rave that's defined hyper-pop" and "more an uncomfortable coming-of-age record than a barbed attack on the pressures of fame", writing that it "sees him slowing things down and reflecting on his hectic journey so far".[13] Colin Joyce of Pitchfork wrote that Glaive "moves away from hyperpop and digicore on his debut album, sharpening his pop instincts as he unpacks the chaotic intensity of teenage emotions", summarizing that he "captures the ecstatic, uncomfortable intensity of the joy and turmoil of being young".[14]
