Shouldn't Wikipedia:Basic_navigation#Sidebar_.28left.29 the Help point to something like Wikpedia:Help? User:AlMac|(talk) 19:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Eh, this doesn't exist. Alex43223 Talk | Contribs | E-mail | C 11:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

How does a contributor add a new topic page?

I cant find the info. It should be easier to locate. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.189.162.197 (talk) 15:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

People have to set up an account to start an article. You search for the article, and there's a red link in the message where it says that the article couldn't be found. If you're not logged in there's no red link to click, which can be confusing if you've forgotten. ;)

Is it possible to get this option in alphabetical order? (is this the right page to ask this, actually? Wiki-uk 15:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Definitely not the right page. Start at the main page, Community Portal. Wnt (talk) 22:46, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wouldn't it be clearer to say "the English Wikipedia home page" rather than just "the Wikipedia home page", since www.wikipedia.org serves as the main page for the Wikipedias overall? Libcub (talk) 00:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Decided to be bold: made the change. Libcub (talk) 19:31, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could somebody who understands what this can do please write something about it in the 'sidebar (left)' section? It seems to me that this tool adds the diff toolbar to the top of the page. I'm not sure what is 'permanent' about it. The reason I ask is that it would help in the localisation project if I understood what I am translating! Lloffiwr (talk) 11:26, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The reason it's called a permanent link is that the link to the diff always yields the same version of the article. If you just link to the article, then that changes day to day - information could be taken out or vandalized, for example. While Wikipedia may never be a good citation for a term paper or the like, you don't have a citation at all if you don't use a link to a diff or a historical version of the page. Under Orientation, when it reads "Versions in other languages have other two-letter labels..."

It should read "Versions in other languages have other two or three-letter labels..."

Which is true for languages without an ISO 639-1 language code, like ast for Asturian. Oriciu (talk) 23:15, 22 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done Added the qualifier "usually", as there are some exceptions, e.g. zh-yue.wikipedia.org, the Cantonese version. Altamel (talk) 03:07, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Danski454 (talk) 15:00, 15 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Search bars

edit

1) Users should be warned that the search bar might not be visible, in which case, the user should be advised to use "Ctrl - " one or more times, which should bring the bar down and visible.

2) Can anyone tell me how to find the search bar on the Spanish Wikipedia? It used to be right there on any page, but now I can't find it. Kdammers (talk) 04:30, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
