Comment edit

To do:

  • more about category tags
  • more about the COLON CHARACTER
  • decide whether this overlap is helpful, or just merge all this stuff into the other help pages

I made this page, because I can't remember it all, and I certainly can't find it in a hurry. Uncle Ed July 7, 2005 14:37 (UTC)

Is there any way to stop this page from being listed in the categories related to the example templates that are shown? JulesH 9 July 2005 09:45 (UTC)

Yes, Jules. I used the subst: prefix inside the curly braces to turn each template code into its, er, "expansion". Then I deleted the category tag from the expanded version. Looking at the history won't really show you how I did this. I better create a help page which explains the use of "subst:". Uncle Ed July 9, 2005 15:44 (UTC)

Suffix Trick edit

As far as I can tell, the suffix trick does not work with apostrophes. Is there a way around this? (Example: test's) Nationalparks 14:18, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps an admin could help you in this. --Siva1979Talk to me 18:51, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
This is intentional behavior. See bugzilla:14655 for more details. -- 71.223.123.84 (talk) 02:18, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Is there a way to use a suffix trick on word which change letters at the end? i.e. Category/Categories? TIA Omegarad (talk) 00:09, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Trick to bring users to the same page though they enter different word combinations, sysonyms that are logic to them edit

Can you take up this trick pls? I ran into this problem because I want to redirect users looking with the words "chatbots" or "virtual assistants" to the same page. I think it has to do with the piping character, but I can't put my hand on it exactly. Thx and happy wikkying. (what the hell, can't find the sign button anymore) SvenAERTS (talk) 11:14, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Improved "pipe trick" behaviour edit

For a number of suggestions how to further improve the "pipe trick" behaviour see:

Template examples edit

All of these are hidden on mobile, so a mobile user reading this will get quite confused. Better examples are needed. Hairy Dude (talk) 14:20, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
