West Virginia ought not to be delineated; it didn't exist until 1863 after seceeding from Virginia. Perhaps it should be shaded.

I agree... how does one recreate the delineations. WV only seceeded from VA BECAUSE it choose to reject slavery.

Because the map is titled "Slave and Free States Before the American Civil War" West Virginia should note have been separated from Virginia. However, that being said, West Virginia entered the Union as a slave state as per the article and in that sense is appropriated labeled.Dubyavee (talk) 20:27, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
