Inclusion Criteria edit

Majority of the information are from the general serial killer books listed in references, any info not derived from those books are marked with their own references. I have excluded some entries from the books:

  • Unsolved cases with "Placename + (Serial) Killer" names (e.g. Long Island serial killer, Daytona Beach killer) are not included, since they are not so much nicknames as descriptors for the unidentified killers
  • War criminals and organized crime members are not included, even though they could technically fit the definition of a serial killer
  • Only killers with 3 or more victims, killed at different dates, are included (those who killed a large amount of people in a single event would not qualify)

Discussing possibility of a merge edit

I’ve started a discussion at Talk:Lists of serial killers#Redundancy in lists of serial killers to discuss maybe merging a bunch of lists together as “List of serial killers after the 19th century”, and then later that merge target can be split up by time period if necessary. One column could be for nickname. There doesn’t seem to be any need for any separate lists “by country” or “by number of victims” or “by nickname” because a single chronological table can always be easily sorted to provide that information.
