Materials edit

Do we leave adventures out of the list of resources for the monster list and just use core books and accessories? I don't mind deleting the whole thing as it is a test really. I am going to start MM later today. --LexCorp (talk) 20:35, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adventures should certainly be included! One point to note is that if you can, adding in a brief (one-sentence) description for each monster would be helpful (just don't copy verbatim from the source). Also, to prevent additional work in the future, only the first letter in the "Variants" section should be capitalized, not each monster name. Keep up the good work! -Drilnoth (talk) 21:07, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Monster distinction edit

For example Rat doesn't appear in Keep on the Shadowfell but the variants rat swarm and giant rats do. So shall we put a creature Rat and then the variants. Or one of the variants directly and then add the rest in the variant sections. Or if there is no base monster like in Ooze (Ochre Jelly,Blue Slime,Gelatinous Cube).Shall we put then Ooze as entry and the rest variants? or all separated? If we follow the MM for example bugbears, goblins and hobgoblins are all goblins.Again Ochre Jelly,Blue Slime and Gelatinous Cube are Oozes but there is no ooze monster at the moments (at least no in the MM). Worst still is that all demons or abominations are also variants from the same group with no resemblance to one another. But for example all angel do seem to feet together. So what criteria do we follow: likeness, strict MM Classification, or subjective to the editor.--LexCorp (talk) 23:25, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd try to put it in the section that the MM would use, even if it isn't organized as such in the book. -Drilnoth (talk) 14:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orcus Underpriest edit

Monster or NPC? All other monsters with given name such as Kalarel, Scion of Orcus I consider them to be npc.--LexCorp (talk) 23:57, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Personally, I think that any creature with a class template should be treated as an NPC and not included, unless it's in the MM. Creatures that resemble, or even are, humanoids should be included if they don't have a class template, since then they are built entirely from scratch just like monsters. -Drilnoth (talk) 14:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adventurer's Vault edit

I've added the mounts from Adventurer's Vault, as well as the various creatures summoned by the figurines of wondrous power. However, I'm not entirely sure about including the figurines, as they don't follow the normal rules for creatures. Opinions? Dracomortis (talk) 20:39, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Monster Manual List edit

If no one else does it before then, I'll add in the rest of the creatures form the Monster Manual tomorrow. --Dracomortis (talk) 04:12, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Monster Manual list is complete. The descriptions could use some touching up, though, and a number of the creatures don't have pages to link to. I'll see what I can do about adding them to existing pages or, where appropriate, creating a new page for them. --Dracomortis (talk) 17:50, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Organization - First Appearance vs. Alphabetical Listing edit

As of right now, the lists are organized by the order the creature first appears in. However, I think that listing them alphabetically might make the tables easier to read, especially considering that sorting them by first appearance is a bit redundant when the page number is listed. Opinions? --Dracomortis (talk) 23:47, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

shifter Humans/elves controversy edit

ok my source it the Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition monster manual it states in p233 that "Descended from humans and lycanthropes, shifters resemble humans with animalistic features. Some are ruthless brigands and wild brawlers, while others are heroes."--LexCorp (talk) 00:57, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I concur per my note on the Wikiproject talk page. 24.148.0.83 (talk) 02:58, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
